How to find community in my everyday busy life

How do we find community in our every day ordinary lives?

Our AC leaked for three days before we finally figured out what was going on. It took three additional days for it to finally dry up part of our bedroom floor.

During that time my husband had business outside of town. We thought with the line having recently cleaned out it would stop dripping. But three days later it was still dripping.

Each day with more velocity. I woke up one morning thinking, how in the world I was going to pick up the pan without spilling it all over the place.

I prayed, Lord, how? He reminded me we have a shop vac. I wouldn’t need to pick it up, let the machine do the work.

Gratitude filled my heart, even though we were over the leak we were also so thankful we had found the source.

In the midst of this we had unexpected Drs. appointments for one of my littles. Another opportunity to enter into communion with God.

What do we do when fear feels so big, and we feel frail?

I cried out to God. “Lord, I feel afraid.”.

For years I have made it a priority to run to The Lord. This is easy for me.

Reaching out to tell my people we are having a hard time? Not so much.

Why? As I sit here to write to you, I truly believe it’s because we don’t want to burden people with the weight of what we are carrying.

Sometimes what we are walking through is so difficult, involves other people and it can feel embarrassing even. I have been here, so many times.

I have an understanding that it is The Lord who can sustain me. He will see me through. While there is truth and wisdom in this.

Sister, we miss out on the beauty of allowing others to minister to our hearts when we don’t reach out.

So how do we have community in the busyness of life?

You are here, because you are wondering how to find community in the busyness of our days.

There is no better time to find community. In the brokenness. Uncertainty of our days.

It is here in these places where true beauty can flow. Where the pain we are carrying is met with love and compassion by the people The Lord will bring in this season.

Over the last almost two decades of walking with The Lord I have seen how He has brought women into my life when I least expected it.

We are not called to do life alone sister. It is so much easier sometimes isn’t it? To not have to share the deep personal things of our lives?

But this is a lie. Slowly we are being isolated, conditioned for loneliness. While we are slowly dying, desiring for human connection. The Lord extends His hand and say’s

“I have life for you, life abundant, eternal.”

Every time I sit with dear friends at least once I will say, I have no idea why I am sharing this with you.

Sister, I have no idea why, but God does! He knows the questions we’ve been wrestling with. The trauma we are fighting hard to overcome.

The loneliness we have been fighting. The betrayal. The abuse. He knows it all. And He has provided His daughters, you and I for one another!

It is for our good, for His glory that we come together!

I cannot emphasis this enough! Out on our own we are more vulnerable to the schemes and attacks of the enemy.

Out on our own we don’t see clearly like we should, because we all have blind spots. We need His people to come alongside us. His daughters.

Here in the midst of the busy and the messy I want you to sit with The Lord and ask Him, who are the people you have for me in this season Lord.

He is faithful, I know He will show you, please ask Him.

I am always so surprised by who He brings.

How He blesses my heart in the pouring out. He is good sister.

He cares so deeply and doesn’t want us to do life alone.

Does she really want to be my friend?

Maybe you’re in a season where friendships have been hard to come by and you wonder if it’s true, if God really has friends for everyone? Does she really want to be my friend?

I used to feel this way. I believed that everyone already had their own set of friends and they certainly didn’t want one more.

The truth is my parents moved us to a tiny little town in Texas when I was 15 years old. It was one of the most difficult moves of our lives.

We had moved before, many times. My daddy was a seasonal worker. When the season ended he needed to find another job, by the time I was in 4th grade we had moved multiple times.

None hit harder than the year I moved as a sophomore. It appeared as though every single person already knew someone and they had all been friends since the womb.

I didn’t fit in very well and often felt lonely that year. In the school bus I met kids that like me didn’t fit into the molds of that small town and we became friends.

The interesting thing as I look back at the age of 37. Things are not always what they seem. Sometimes the most popular appearing people are some who are hurting the most.

Sometimes the people we think want nothing to do with us, lack the courage to reach out. What would it look like if we believed that we already belonged?

Belonged to God. That we are loved by God.

These truths have helped my heart so much over the years. They have flipped my views and thoughts about myself upside down.

You see, when I enter into a space I am no longer seeking to fit in. To be grafted into the group. No, I now have eyes that look for the one who is standing to herself.

Her I approach. There is a confidence that only comes from God. Does this mean I never feel insecure? Of course not.

I will however tell you the more we seek to commune with God, the more His peace, His comfort, His approval of me gives me the courage and confidence to walk into rooms where I don’t know anyone, and I don’t feel afraid or unsure.

Don’t do life alone:

What if the longings you have in your own heart are the very longings others are having as well?

Let me let you in on a little secret. We need people.

I lost count the number of posts I have read of women asking where the people are? Where is this village that everyone talks about? Where are they?

We all have a need for gathering. For community. It has been placed inside of us. On purpose and by design.

There is not something wrong with you if you are feeling out of sorts and feeling like something is missing.

Friendships, living in community with people are such a gift.

One that requires work, yes, but so important. I want to invite you to see a post that I wrote several weeks back, it’s on friendships, how to make friendships, if you are still unsure of how to even go about making friends, that post is for you.

What if God wants to use your home as a place to bring hope and peace, laughter and joy?

I believe He does. It is going to require vulnerability.

I truly believe that you’ll be able to open up your home even when it’s messy because your heart and desire for community will overshadow any fear or insecurity of judgement.

This week I wanted to have friends over, but one of my littles got sick, so we weren’t able to. Instead I did the next best thing, I reached out and let a few close friends know what a difficult week we were having.

I invited my friends into my pain. Into some of the fears and uncertainties I am facing and I asked them to join me in prayer.

Even though it was a difficult week, I still felt Fathers gentle hand leading me. Through some of my friends responses, I was able to sit and remember God’s faithfulness.

He was faithful then. He will see us through now.

Before the difficult week started, a dear friend messaged to tell me how encouraged she is by my faith. I stared at her message in tears.

The truth is the faith I have is a gift from Father. In light of this truth I responded with tremendous gratitude and once again humbled by His provision as I have cried out,

“Lord increase my faith.: He has and He will.

So today, when life feels too full, too messy, too busy for friends, please take time to reach out. To invite. To include.

Always begin with prayer. Always invite The Lord in. He knows exactly who He has in this season, lets trust Him together. He is faithful.

I pray this little post was a blessing to you, as it was for me to write. I never know what The Lord will have me write about.

I was getting ready to sit down to write and then saw some of the wilted roses outside. I pruned them and then brought in some of the lovely blooms to enjoy while I write, even a few of the damaged ones.

So whether you buy flowers for yourself, receive them, cut them, bring flowers inside, enjoy the beauty The Lord has for us. Even in busy, messy seasons.

Remember there is beauty, even here.

You are loved and I am so thankful you are here. If you have a specific prayer request would you let me know how I can pray for you?

I am cheering you on!
