How to win the fight, the war in my mind
If you’re just waking up to the reality that there is a very real war for our minds this can be discouraging, but please don’t despair. Gods got us!

I want to invite you on the journey Father has invited me on. It is one of nearness and an abiding hope in God.
We are continuing our series on winning the war in our minds. To read parts one and two.
Please know that each part stands on it’s own and reading in order isn’t necessarily super important.
The way we renew our minds.
The way we WIN the fight against the enemy of our souls is by presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice to our God.
Then we will be able to not conform to the patterns of this world.
It is then and only then, that we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds and when we are transformed and renewed in our minds we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will.
These truths are found in Romans 12:1-2
It is simple.
But it is not easy.
There is a real fight.
But I want you to know, you have everything you need to live a life that is surrendered to God.
The Lord tells us in 2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord as His (God’s) divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
All you need has already been given to you and I, it is all found in the person of Jesus, Our King.
To live a life that is surrendered all we need is, you guessed it, ourselves. It is all that is required, a willingness to lay our lives down, to trust that He has our best in mind. Psalms 139.
Sister, His Son Jesus is worthy of our sacrifice.
I hold on to these promises when the attacks come, “you pushed me with violence but The Lord came to my defense.”
God in His love and kindness will pave the way for us.
The new brain pathways that are being forged will be well driven paths sister, we won’t always fall for the schemes of the enemy.
We wont always believe the lies, and the more time we spend with Father the quicker we will recognize when the enemy is trying to lead us astray.
Desiring that we would build cases against our God.

God WILL come to our defense.
If you are living with daily anxiety please know that I understand and I don’t want to make light of your pain.
Every single persons journey is different. I wrestled with that level of anxiety for years, and then one day, suddenly, God healed me.
I know my triggers. Well, some of them. I do my best to live a proactive and not a reactive life.
Meaning, when life feels easy and smooth, I still read my bible, I still fix my eyes on Jesus, I still call out to Him for help. I still reach out to my sisters to ask for prayer.
I am still on guard, as best as I can. I am still seeking the heart of Father. Training my ears to hear His still quiet voice.
I want this for you too.

If you struggle to believe that God will come to your defense, I want you to write that down, write down the lies you believe, and then pray, pray and ask God to show you what the truth is, in HIS WORD.
“He brought me out into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”
Psalms 18 is one of the most beautiful chapters of God coming to the defense of His people.
Incline your ear to His voice
Sister, Father will never contradict His Word. As we continue to fine tune our ears to the sound of Father it is imperative we are reading His Word.
Jamie Winship has an incredible book on learning to exchange the lies of the world for Gods eternal truths. Living Fearlessly You can get it on audible for just .99! It is a book you’re going to want to read!

It has been a long time since I have read something so transformational and practical.
It has been very helpful on this beautiful journey of learning to hear Father voice.

Back to reading the bible:
How else will we know whether it is Father, ourselves or our adversary?
Sister, those who are able to recognize counterfeit money do it because all they handle is real money, the authentic bills, it is not by seeing all the many replicas men have made.
It is the same with us. The very same way we recognize the voice of those closest to us.
This exact same process is what will propel us forward, as we incline our ears to recognize the voice of Our Abba Father.
Wait on The Lord.
It may be that very same day, or it might take weeks, I never know how God will answer, but He always does, even when it’s not in the way I expect Him to.
Lets trust Him together.
If you’re struggling to hide Gods Word in your heart I want to encourage you to see this post I wrote a couple weeks ago.
I would love for you to be in the habit of reading His Word out loud.
There is something so powerful in allowing our ears to hear, our brains processing what we are speaking, it is a whole experience and it is beautiful.
Not only are you able to hear it, but the spirit realm as well.
I want you to see how your confidence in His Word grows the more you proclaim it.
It might seem silly if you’re not in the custom of reading His Word out loud but give it a try all week and see if your hope and faith aren’t strengthened all the more!

Earlier I mentioned some of my struggles with anxiety, next to staying rooted in Gods Word there are other things I do to help me combat anxiety when it does rear its ugly head.
Some practical ways I help my body to not have to deal with the affects of anxiety:
- I skip out on coffee.
I learned a few years back that caffeine affected me negatively, not all forms of caffeine, but coffee in particular is not good for my body, and for me it mimics anxiety.
I will often feel on edge or panicky if I have too much caffeine.
I’ve switched to Chai, and not just any chai, but one that is clean with no added sugars.
I used to have my oldest prepare it for me a couple of days, but I had to cut back to about once a week or every other week because my body wasn’t handling it well.
Grief is real and it can affect us some days than others.
Another reason I don’t have it daily, I have found that even that small amount of caffeine can build in my body and you guessed it, affects me negatively.
I also don’t usually drink my chai before having something to eat.
This is super important for me.
You will have to learn your body, see how your body responds.
If you’re used to drinking multiple cups of coffee it will be hard to stop at first, but if you’re dealing with anxiety I can’t encourage you enough to try a different approach to caffeine.

2. I don’t watch the news.
Gasp, someone in the back just fainted.
Like no news?
Well, kind of.
You see, I know God knows my frame, He knows the things that cause fear and worry to rise up inside of me, around me.
He has given me a husband who loves me and knows this about me.
He is able to filter the news in ways that my brain just can’t sometimes, be it do to trauma my brain is still healing from or just the way God made my brain, the fact is the same, I don’t watch the news.
He tells me what I need to know, and my most favorite line when asked, “if I live under a rock,” “Yes, yes I do, The Rock, The Lord Jesus.”
I know that I can trust Him, if I need to plan or prepare for something He alerts my spirit.
I don’t know how He does it, He just does.
Like the year we had the snow apocalypse in 2021.
I had felt in my spirit I needed to gather extra food for our family and had been learning to build a pantry with some staple foods.
Before this point I would only purchase food for the week.
When the snow storm hit and the stores had barren shelves for a couple of weeks our family did not go without.
It was certainly a scary time for many, but because of God alerting my spirit months before to begin to prepare, we were even able to share of the resources we had, it was beautiful!
Yes, this requires faith and trust in God. And isn’t this what our lives in Christ are all about. Learning to trust Him?

Lasting change may not happen overnight, but it is my prayer we will take the small daily steps to live a life filled with peace and more clarity.

Jennie Allen has a couple great books out on the mind, our emotions. I love Jennie, she is such a wonderful woman of God, she loves The WORD of God and now because of what she has walked through, she also loves the brain.
You can find her book here. I recently started re reading it before handing it off to someone I love and it is just so good.
It has been such a help as we walk through grief.
3. For several months I have been taking a calming supplement whose main ingredient is Ashwagandha. I found a similar supplement on amazon since I had ran out of what I normally take and needed some for one of my kids.
As with all supplements ask your provider to make sure it is a good fit for you.
I had our calm supplement for over a year in our cabinet. I had considered tossing it since we hadn’t used it.
I am so thankful I didn’t. It served my body so well, especially as we were dealing with so much loss and transition in our lives.
The Mary Ruth’s supplement comes in liquid form and I have to take it multiple times a day, which is fine, I just have to be more proactive about it.
I am hoping to get a link for the Calm supplement for you to check out and see if it might help you too.
In closing:
If you are in a season of hardship I wrote practical ways for your people to come alongside you here and if you are looking for people, “Where do I find my people”, you can find some practical ways to find them here.
Thank you so much for being here. I hope you’ll find value and little nuggets of wisdom you can carry with you through out your day. Many blessings on your journey to winning the war in our mind, know I am praying for you and Christ is all the more! Hebrews 7:25
Thank you so much for being here.
